Your Brigade Horoscope for 2018
Another year has come to an end. It’s a time to reflect on the the past and make plans for the future. If 2017 felt like a flash in the pan as it did for a lot of us, you might be looking for some cosmic assistance in making your New Year’s Resolution. Here’s a look at what the stars are cooking up for you in 2018.
Aries (March 21- April 20): Aries is the first sign of the zodiac, symbolizing new beginnings, and an unyielding desire to be first at everything else in life. You don’t do anything half-heartedly so you expect (and demand) results. In 2018, focus on demanding the right things from the right sources, including yourself. If you work 70 hours a week, stop expecting yourself to cook elaborate meals; stick to the one pot wonders. Don’t think of this as giving up; think of it as winning at lowering expectations.
Taurus (April 21- May 21) A Taurus is dependable and organized. You have plenty of good traits, like a quiet nature so Aries can talk, patience and practicality, but your stubbornness tends to be the one people remember. If not the year of “yes,” let 2018 at least be the year of “not a hard ‘no’.” Travel, meet new people--open your mind and your palate, but not your wallet. Stay stubborn with your hard earned dollars and only invest in something with the biggest pay off: your health.
Gemini (May 22- June 21): Duality is in your nature, but it’s not duplicity; you just know that if one is good, two must be better: insert “career,” “friends,” “lovers.” Sometimes this helps hold your attention (you’re always on to the next, more exciting thing), other times it gets you into trouble. In 2018, think quality over quantity. If one knife can do the job of two, let it.
Cancer (June 22- July 22): Cancers catch all of the feelings that Geminis leave in the dust. Cancers can be emotional and difficult to understand, but your intuitiveness and sensitivity means everyone comes to you for advice. You are all about loving, harmonious relationships and you know the best way to get everyone together is making Sunday sauce or faking an engagement.
Leo (July 23- August 21): Leos are loud, dominant and magnetic. You pull people in with your wit and repel them with your inability to sound sincere. You talk a big game and you like to show-off--usually you have a reason to. In 2018, roll up your sleeves in the kitchen and give ‘em something to talk about. Even if it comes out terrible, you’ll order everyone to eat it anyway: out of fear and respect (mostly fear), they will.
Virgo (August 22- September 23): Virgos are logical and industrious. You are constantly analyzing situations, taking things apart and putting them back together so you can understand them deeply. You can make order out of chaos, but you’d prefer perfect order. In 2018, remind yourself that perfection is the enemy of good. Live a little. Cook something by feel and taste instead of by measuring cups and scales. A collapsed soufflé is just a tired muffin; it will still taste good.
Libra (September 24- October 23): Easygoing and diplomatic Libras are good company. You lift everyone around you and can smooth ruffled feathers and bruised egos like nobody’s business. But your people pleasing nature means you often stifle your own feelings to keep the peace. In 2018, stand up for yourself, in your social life and your career. Stop stabbing yourself with an epipen under the the table and just tell your friend/boss you’re allergic to eggs/Excel.
Scorpio (October 24- November 22): Scorpios are intense. You pursue a goal doggedly, but conceal your passion under the surface. This gives you an air of mystery: not common in the era of “share and compare.” Your shrewd mind never forgets a kindness, but it also never forgets a double-crossing. In 2018, your ambition will take you far, but let the cream rise to the top; stop telling your co-workers and family “You will be chopped.”
Sagittarius (November 23- December 22): A Sagittarius always sees the glass as half-full. No matter the situation, you see the silver lining. It’s no wonder people like having you around. Your generous spirit means that you are the first to volunteer when a friend needs a hand. In 2018, be careful not to let others take advantage of your willingness to do favors. Like frosting, if you spread yourself too thin, you won’t do anything well, including making cupcakes.
Capricorn (December 23- January 20): Capricorns are known to be disciplined and strategic. You live with purpose and are steadfast in pursuing your goals. No one needs to tell you that life is serious business and people count on you to provide the dose of reality that others seem to be missing. It’s not that you see the glass as half-full per se, you just know that if the recipe requires one full glass of cooking wine and Sagittarius drank half, you’ve got a glass that’s half as full as you need and a buzzed optimist on your couch. In 2018, buy two bottles for cooking as backup and drink one; you deserve it.
Aquarius (January 21- February 19): An Aquarius marches to the beat of his own drum--or tamborine, or saxophone: you don’t follow the rules. You are the water and truth bearing visionary, also known for your kindness. You’re a schemer and a dreamer, but the follow through isn’t as interesting to you as creating the plan itself. That’s what a sous chef is for. In 2018, do what you’re good at and delegate the details away.
Pisces (February 20- March 20): A Pisces has her feet on the ground and her head in the sky. You’ve got an otherworldly aura and you’ve heard people say you have an old soul. Your intuitiveness allows you to deeply understand others, but it means that you can absorb too much and bend to each passing influence. You tend to collect people and everyone thinks that they are your “special friend.” If you don’t watch out, you’ll have too many cooks in the kitchen--and living room and bedroom. Let 2018 be the year of trimming the fat and cooking for one! (Unless you have children in which case consider making extra.)
